Alcohol, Other Drugs, Gambling and Gaming Awareness (AODGG) - Train the Trainer
Increase one’s knowledge and understanding of a variety of issues related to alcohol, other drugs and gambling. Topic areas include: - Substance Use 101 - Alcohol: Staying Within the Guidelines - DWI - Driving While Impaired - Keeping your Parties Safe - Illegal Drugs & Zero Tolerance - Prescription & Over-the-Counter Medication - An Introduction to Gambling and Problem Gambling - Talking About Alcohol and Other Drugs - Supervisor’s Training Part One: Recognizing and Responding to Early Warning Signs - Supervisor’s Training Part Two: Developing Effective Interview Skills - Understanding and Changing the Culture of an Organization - Alternatives to Alcohol and Other Drug Use Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Teach others to recognize the signs and symptoms of addiction, to apply the DND policies around alcohol, other drugs and gambling and understand and develop strategies to promote an addiction-free work environment. Suggested recertification every 2 years. IRS aims to provide scientific based evidence about injuries in the CAF at both a National and Local level. This workshop is facilitated, in partnership with local Subject Matter Experts, in the field of Health Promotion, Physiotherapy and Fitness. Discover why more people may be risking injury when they are exercising and learn a few simple strategies you can implement to help prevent injuries and increase motivation and confidence. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Teach the most prevalent causes of injuries within the CAF and how to apply a variety of injury-reducing strategies. Delivery type: Classroom Time commitment: 3.5 Hours Prerequisites: None Course required for: Health Promotion Full Time Staff Optional: All Others Inter-Comm - Train the Trainer Inter-Comm is an innovative program to help deal with conflict and improve communication in personal relationships. This course is comprised of 4 modules and offers participants instruction on conflict management concepts as well as strategies that may help when facing difficult situations or conversations with family and friends. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Provide exercises and coaching to provide skills in conflict management and effective communication, and nurture collaboration both at home and in the community. MAM is an interactive program designed to help increase personal performance by identifying successful coping strategies that participants already use in anger–generating situations and by providing opportunities to learn and practice new skills. Discussions focus on understanding anger; identifying personal triggers; managing conflict with others; identifying and practicing strategies that work for you, and learning how to manage your response for the long-term. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Provide methods to improve relationships in the workplace, at home and in the community, enhanced team cohesion, more effective problem solving skills and reduced levels of stress and anxiety when faced with anger generating events and circumstances. Delivery type: Classroom Time commitment: 20 Hours Prerequisites: None Course required for: Health Promotion Full Time Staff Optional for: All Others Mental Fitness & Suicide Awareness (MFSA) - Train the Trainer The purpose of MFSA is to prepare personnel in leadership positions to promote mental fitness and to lessen the incidence of mental health injuries including deliberate self-harm and suicide within the military community. Although this is a supervisor course, course is open and appropriate for all ranks, families and NPF/DND Civilian Employees. Suggested recertification every 2 years. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting which will provide methods and information to: - understand barriers to seeking help - learn about the stigma attached to mental health issues - practice effective communication - learn how to use the ACE Model - learn how to build their resiliency quotient - increase their confidence as a leader Delivery type: Classroom Time commitment: 8 Hours Prerequisites: None Course required for: Health Promotion Full Time Staff Optional for: All Others Respect in the CAF - Train the Trainer
Originating from strategies outlined in Operation Honour, The “Respect in the CAF” workshop is a curriculum for use in the Canadian Armed Forces. The workshop is intended to promote respect in the CAF through awareness and understanding and to empower CAF members to take a stand against harmful and inappropriate sexual behaviour (HISB). Desired Learning Outcome: This workshop is designed to foster a sustained change in attitudes and behaviours in order to build a respectful climate and culture within the Canadian Armed Forces. This program is currently offered to CAF members only and delivered in rank specific workshops. This interactive program offers an effective, skills-based approach to managing stress. Through self-awareness, behaviour change and skill building, participants will examine stress within a military context, and learn about the stress response. Various relaxation and stress management techniques and strategies will be explored and practised. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Teach others how to: - Understand the stress reaction in the military context. - Choose and practice specific skills that they will use to decrease stress and build resilience - Benefit from regular practice of the relaxation response. Are you looking to fine tune your eating and activity habits? Would you like to know how supplements can impact your physical performance? Are you eating enough to fuel your activity? TFTP offers participants an opportunity to determine their personal energy requirement and learn new tips on how to maximize their overall physical performance. This interactive workshop includes education on Everyday Eating, Fueling for Training and Recovery, Nutrient Timing and Hydration Before, During & After Physical Activity, Body Composition and Weight Issues and Sports Supplements. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting. Teach others how to choose the amount and type of fluid and food needed to balance energy requirements in varied situations and to optimize health and physical performance. The WWLP is based on Canada’s Food Guide and does not include gimmicks and false promises around weight loss. It is designed to give participants the opportunity to learn realistic ways to lose weight and keep it off. It is designed to give participants the opportunity to learn realistic ways to lose weight and keep it off. Participants will learn to adjust portion sizes, understand and interpret nutrition labels and restaurant menus, along with developing a physical activity plan to boost their metabolism. Participants will get the lowdown on healthy meal planning and snacks and how to manage hunger and food cravings. We are especially lucky here at Garrison Kingston to be able to offer the WWLP in partnership with Fitness Staff who lead a weekly physical activity session. A grocery store tour and a healthy cooking class are included. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will be able to lead this course in a classroom setting.
