This training will be the entry level training for all Fitness and Sports personnel. This training package provides an introduction to DFit programs, group physical fitness training and the FORCE Evaluation. All training content will be online and each performance check will be evaluated by the local Fitness Coordinator as part of an on-the-job training package to coincide with a typical probationary period. The training will cover the following performance objectives to the level of continuous and non-continuous supervision as defined in the Occupational Specification (OS FS1—3 June, 2014): - Prepare for physical fitness activities - Conduct a physical fitness session - Conduct the FORCE Evaluation The pre-requisite is to hold any Fitness and Sports position. To be qualified you must successfully complete (see course descriptions): A) The annual physical fitness requirement as indicated in the job description B) PSP Fitness Personnel Integration package C) Plan Physical Fitness Activities D) Conduct Group Physical Fitness E) FORCE Evaluator qualification Desired Learning Outcome: To be competent in delivery of FS programs at an introductory level. Delivery type: Online registration through National Training Centre (Webex) and OJT assessment. Time commitment: 21 Hours Online followed by 7 Hours of OJT Prerequisites: Must hold a Fitness and Sports position Course required for: Fitness Leader, Fitness and Sports Instructor Instructor, Fitness Coordinator, Manager Fitness and Sports Optional: All Others Fitness and Sports Level 2 (FS2) This training will be for Fitness and Sports personnel that provide physical fitness training, physical fitness evaluations and physical training programming to Canadian Armed Forces units and personnel. The training will be a blended learning training program that will combine face-to-face sessions, e-Learning activities and on-the-job training. A face-to-face session will held over 10 days at the PSP Training Centre. A new session will be administered approximately every 6 months. The on-the-job training will be conducted after the face-to-face session. The training will cover the following performance objectives to the level of noncontinuous supervision as defined in the Occupational Specification (OS FS2—3 June 2014): - Prepare for occupational physical fitness activities - Conduct An operational physical fitness session - Instruct physical fitness theory / knowledge session - Conduct the FORCE Evaluator qualification (FORCE Instructor qualification) - Conduct specialty trade selection and maintenance physical fitness evaluations - Create a basic periodized physical fitness program Desired Learning Outcome: To be qualified you must successfully complete (see course/module descriptions): A) at minimum CSEP-CPT designation B) Conduct Operational Physical Fitness C) FORCE Instructor qualification D) Speciality Trade Physical Fitness Evaluations E) Basic Program Design and Periodization Delivery type: Online registration through National Training Centre (Webex), face to face training in Borden for 10 days, and OJT assessment Time commitment: 3 Months Prerequisites: The following are the prerequisites: A) The annual physical fitness requirement as indicated in the job description B) Successful completion of FS1 C) Qualify for CSEP-CPT Course required for: Fitness and Sports Instructor Instructor, Fitness Coordinator, Manager Fitness and Sports Optional: Fitness Leader Fitness and Sports Level 3 (FS3) This speciality will be for a select group of experienced and motivated Fitness and Sports personnel who will provide operational and performance-related physical fitness training and physical training programming to CAF units and personnel. The training will be a face-to-face session, held over 8 days at the PSP Training Centre with e-Learning activities prior to attending the session. Candidates for this specialty must arrive for the course in excellent physical condition. The recommended level of physical condition is defined as the following: - 5 chin-ups - Level 7.0 on the 20 MSR - Squat 1.5 times their body weight - 5 Clap push-ups - Capable to complete an obstacle course - Capable to execute load-bearing physical fitness activities Desired Learning Outcome: To be qualified you must successfully complete (see course/module descriptions): A) At minimum CSEP-CPT designation B) Conduct Operational Physical Fitness C) FORCE Instructor qualification D) Speciality Trade Physical Fitness Evaluations E) Basic Program Design and Periodization Delivery type: Online registration through National Training Centre (Webex), face to face training in Borden for 8 days, and OJT assessment Time commitment: 3 Months Prerequisites: The following are the prerequisites : A) Qualified minimum CSEP-CPT B) Successfully complete FS2 C) Be employed with PSP Fitness and Sports for a minimum of one year D) Climb a 4m rope E) Scale a 6-ft wall unassisted D) Be recommended by their Fitness and Sports Manager based on merit E) Achieve independence level of performance on the conduct of physical training activities F) Achieve independence level of performance on the conduct of FORCE Evaluation Optional: Fitness and Sports Instructor, Physical Education Specialist, Fitness Coordinator Fitness and Sports Level 4 (FS4) This specialty will be for a select few of experienced and highly motivated Fitness and Sports personnel that are willing to develop basic military assistants within the CAF Physical Fitness Program. This training package will be conducted in an unconventional format with mentorship as a primary learning method. Candidates will be required to instruct, with incremental responsibility, as an assistant three Basic Fitness Training Assistant courses. Candidates for this specialty must arrive for the course in excellent physical condition. The required level of physical condition is defined as the following: - Meet the FORCE Evaluation minimum standard - Capable to climb a 4m rope - Capable to complete an obstacle course Desired Learning Outcome: The speciality will cover the following performance objectives assuming candidates demonstrate a high level performance capability as defined in the Specialty Specification (SS FS4—4 June, 2013): - Demonstrate an expertise in instructing strength and conditioning exercises - Demonstrate extensive experience in conducting classroom theory - Critique the conduct of physical fitness activities To be qualified you must successfully complete: A) the observation / participation phase B) the supervision phase Delivery type: Online registration through National Training Centre (Webex), face to face training in Borden for 8 days, and OJT assessment Time commitment: Prerequisites: A) Be a volunteer B) Qualified minimum CSEP-CPT C) Successfully complete FS3 D) Be employed with F&S for a minimum of two years E) Be recommended by their Fitness and Sports Director and the Directing Staff based on merit F) Achieve expert level of performance on the conduct of physical training activities G) Achieve expert level of performance on the conduct of FORCE Evaluation H) Pass the BFTA written test with a 90% NOTE: Candidates will be selected based off BFTA demand and the number of candidates selected will be indicated in the Warning Order. IRS aims to provide scientific based evidence about injuries in the CAF at both a National and Local level. This workshop is facilitated, in partnership with local Subject Matter Experts, in the field of Health Promotion, Physiotherapy and Fitness. Discover why more people may be risking injury when they are exercising and learn a few simple strategies you can implement to help prevent injuries and increase motivation and confidence. Desired Learning Outcome: Participants will learn the most prevalent causes of injuries within the CAF and how to apply a variety of injury-reducing strategies for both their personal fitness and Unit PT. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50 m sprint challenge, 50 m rescue drill and 400 m endurance challenge. Recertification: National Lifeguard certification is current for two years and is recertified by completing a National Lifeguard recertification exam. The recertification may require 6 - 8 hours depending on the number of candidates. Desired Learning Outcome: Drowning prevention. This specialty will be for F&S personnel that are interested in assisting with the Reconditioning Program. The training is an e-Learning program that involves synchronous and asynchronous learning activities to include: webinars, online and offline discussions, written assignments and on-the-job training. Desired Learning Outcome: The training will cover the following activities to the performance level of noncontinuous supervision as defined in part of the Specialty Specification (SS RC1—3 June 2014): - Implement reconditioning programs - Evaluate reconditioning programs To be trained you must successfully complete: A) Reconditioning Model Action Plan course B) Motivation and Confidence course Delivery type: Webinars, online and offline discussions, written assignments and on-the-job training Time commitment: 1 Month Prerequisites: The following are the prerequisites to attempt the training: A) Qualified CSEP-CEP B) Successful completion of FS2 C) Hold a Reconditioning Specialist position; OR be employed with Fitness and Sports for a minimum of one year D) Be recommended by their Manager, Fitness and Sports or equivalent based on merit unless they are employed in a Reconditioning Specialist E) Achieve independence level of performance on the conduct of physical training activities F) Achieve independence level of performance on the conduct of FORCE Evaluation Course required for: Personal Education Specialist Optional: Fitness and Sports Instructor Reconditioning Level 2 (RC2) This training will be for all employed as Reconditioning Specialists, who work under the scope of the PSP Reconditioning Program. The material within the training package will be independent and a co-requisite of RC1. The training is an online training program that involves synchronous and asynchronous learning activities to include: webinars, online and offline discussions, written assignments and peer evaluations. The Water Safety Instructor course focuses on planning and teaching the Red Cross Swim continuum, instructional emergency response skills and instructional techniques specific to our programs. Recertification: Attend a recertification workshop every two years. Desired Learning Outcome: The certification issued allows candidates to teach all the Red Cross Swim programs. Delivery type: Classroom Time commitment: 25 Hours (+ 9-11 Hours teaching experience) Prerequisites: 15 years or older, certified as Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructors Course required for: Red Cross Instructors Optional: All Others Weight Wellness Lifestyle Program (WWLP) The WWLP is based on Canada’s Food Guide and does not include gimmicks and false promises around weight loss. It is designed to give participants the opportunity to learn realistic ways to lose weight and keep it off. Participants will learn to adjust portion sizes, understand and interpret nutrition labels and restaurant menus, along with developing a physical activity plan to boost their metabolism. Participants will get the lowdown on healthy meal planning and snacks and how to manage hunger and food cravings. We are especially lucky here at Garrison Kingston to be able to offer the WWLP in partnership with Fitness Staff who lead a weekly physical activity session. A grocery store tour and a healthy cooking class are included.
